38 years ago today was the beginning of the end for disco music that had gained popularity in the night clubs of America in the 70’s. In 1979 a popular Chicago radio DJ named Steve Dahl put together a radio stunt called “Disco Demolition Night” at the Chicago White Sox Comiskey Park. Fans were asked to bring a disco album to the park for a reduced ticket price. Between the two games of a double-header, all the albums were put into a pile on the field and blown up. The crowd went wild. They loved it! Unfortunately after Dahl left, the fans stormed the field and began rioting. Watch this brief video about one of the worst/greatest radio promotions ever.
