Pope Francis has arrived in America! This much anticipated visit from the head of the Catholic church has a different feel than Papal visits of past. There’s an energy, an excitement about this Pope like no other. From his election in 2013 to now, Pope Francis has gone out of his way to remain humble, tossing aside many Papal traditions. Gone are the fancy red shoes traditionally worn by the pope. Francis opting for less flashy black shoes, a hint to followers that the faithful shouldn’t want for materialistic things. Instead of a large motorcade of SUV’s with darkened windows, the Pope has chosen to travel in a very small Italian compact car barley big enough to hold four men. He kept a contingent of dignitaries, including the President, waiting at the White House taking the time to visit with the hundreds of people standing behind barricades across from the Papal residence in Washington D.C. He is truly the people’s Pope in every since of the word. That’s why he is so well liked by people of all faiths. Even if you are not Catholic, you have to agree with the Popes message of peace, kindness, humbleness, and giving help to those who suffer. A very divided America could use some of that right now.
