Maybe I’m upset because of the whole Lois Lerner/IRS targeting scandal. Or, maybe I’m angry because we had to pay in almost $2,000 to the IRS this year by April 15th. And, if we didn’t hit that deadline, the IRS would rack us with heavy penalties and the threat of jail time. So when I read that IRS employees had willfully evaded paying their taxes, including employees who were responsible for enforcing the nation’s tax laws, my blood began to boil.
Accord to a report from the agency’s inspector general, up to 160 IRS employees were found to have evaded paying their taxes by claiming dependents, failing to file in a timely fashion and claiming tax exemptions for first time house buyers when the employees didn’t purchase a home. To make matters worse, the guilty IRS employees were not fired although a 1998 law requires all IRS employees who fail to pay taxes properly should have their employment terminated. To avoid termination an employees penalty must be waived by the IRS Commissioner. Not only did the employees keep their jobs, many were given promotions and raises after it was determined they willfully evaded paying their taxes.
Shouldn’t we all be held to the same standards. Find out how to lodge a complaint with the IRS…CLICK HERE
