DOG PARKS FOR JONESBORO

A fundraising committee for a potential dog park or parks in the city of Jonesboro has been formed. Work is already underway to establish areas in Jonesboro where residents can take their dogs and enjoy a day outside with their best friend. According to Karen Newberry, fundraising committee member, $500 has already been raised. One corporation has expressed interest in under-writing some or all of the initial costs. Many pet owners in the area think having a dog park is a huge need for the city. However, some city officials, including Mayor Harold Perrin, Parks & Rec Director Wixson Huffstetler, and Jonesboro Animal Control Director Sgt. Larry Rogers expressed some concerns over moving too quickly to establish the parks. Mayor Perrin says he believes study of other dog parks in other cities is needed so that any dog parks for Jonesboro would meet the quality and standards the citizens have come to expect. Sgt. Larry Rogers said there are risks to pets and pet owners that come with these parks. There are also regulatory issues that must be addressed. So, what do you think? Should we have dog parks in Jonesboro. Where should they be? What would you like to see at these dog parks?
