DESIGNER BABIES: RIGHT OR WRONG

Imagine you finally get pregnant. Then through testing you find out your baby has a genetic defect and will be born with handicaps. Now imagine the defects can be corrected by manipulating the babies DNA before they are born. Wouldn’t you want to do anything you could to make sure your baby was born healthy and normal? But what if you could select the gender of your baby, the eye and hair color, even increase your baby’s intelligence? Advancements in genetics are allowing parents to do just that. In fact, rumors are flying around the internet that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, after having trouble getting pregnant with their second child, used only male embryos in their in vitro procedure. The option of having a “designer baby” has been controversial for many years. But now that science is on the cusp of making this not only an option but common place, the question becomes should we even be doing this.
