Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A man is facing a slew of felony charges after police said they found multiple drugs and paraphernalia on him following a report of someone slumped over in a vehicle at a Jonesboro gas station.
The incident began when multiple Jonesboro police officers were dispatched to the Maverick gas station at 2607 Red Wolf Boulevard after a caller reported a man slumped over in a vehicle. According to the probable cause affidavit, the caller said they had banged on the vehicle’s window but received no response.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Jeremy Wheelis immediately recognized the man inside as 34-year-old Christopher Allen Spencer from an encounter a few days prior, when Spencer was also found unconscious in a vehicle. Wheelis was aware that Spencer had an active felony warrant out of Paragould for residential burglary and theft of property.
When officers asked Spencer to step out of the vehicle and attempted to take him into custody, he suddenly turned and tried to run. Following a brief foot chase, officers took Spencer to the ground and successfully arrested him.
During a search of Spencer, police discovered a black case containing multiple drugs and paraphernalia, including suspected methamphetamine, Xanax pills, buprenorphine hydrochloride, and naolozone hydrochloride pills. In addition, two syringes and a spoon with drug residue were found.
On Feb. 25, District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Spencer with the following offenses:
- Possession of meth or cocaine purpose to deliver LT 2GM (Class C felony)
- Possession of SCH III with purpose to deliver (Class C felony)
- Possession of SCH IV or V with purpose to deliver (Class D felony)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class D felony)
- Resisting arrest – refusal to submit to arrest / active or passive refusal (Class B misdemeanor)
- Fleeing (Class C misdemeanor)
Records indicate Spencer is currently on parole in Oklahoma. As a result, Judge Fowler ordered that he wear a GPS ankle monitor if released.
Spencer is currently being held in the Craighead County Detention Center on a $75,000 cash/surety bond. His next scheduled court appearance is set for March 20.
