Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 27, 2024 – With vinyl making a major comeback, Jonesboro native Jared Harvey, 52, decided it was time to follow his dream, when he opened his record store, Jonesboogie Records, in early December.

“I always wanted to open my own record store and it sounded a lot more fun than being an electrician,” Harvey laughed, noting that he was an electrician by trade.

With over 300 new records and new arrivals every week, Harvey said he sells both new and used records, however, the majority of his used records came from his personal collection.

“I had a pretty decent collection that I thought would make a good make a good start,” Harvey said. “It’s that point in my life where I needed to find something else to do and everything just kind of came together.”

Plus, with the popularity of vinyl increasing, he said it was the perfect time to try his hand at his dream.

Vinyl records are making a comeback, as records still pressed for both old and new artists, from The Beatles to Taylor Swift. In fact, for the first time since 1986, vinyl album sales surpassed CD sales in 2023.

While there are several reasons records are popular again, some notable reasons include the collectability of records, the audio quality, the tangibility of a physical album and nostalgia.

As for the name of the shop, Harvey said he and his friends used to call the city of Jonesboro “Jonesboogie” when he was younger, so it felt appropriate.

“That was just what we call it back in the day. You know, back in the ’80s… it is Jonesboogie Rock-n-Saw,” he laughed.

Harvey shares shop with his son-in-law, Travis Harvey-Williams, who runs The Bird House Tattoo in studio in the back. There are plans to sell T-shirts for both shops in the near future.

Jonesboogie Records, located at 2320 E. Matthews Ave., is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. After hours viewing can be arranged by appointment.
