UPDATE | Tornado warning issued for Craighead County

UPDATE 1:46 P.M.:

The NWS cancelled the tornado warning for south central Greene County, northwestern Mississippi County and eastern Craighead County at 1:41 p.m. In addition, the NWS cancelled the tornado warning for southeastern Craighead County, northeastern Poinsett County and northwestern Mississippi County at 1:45 p.m.

“The storm which prompted the warning has moved out of the area. Therefore, the warning has been cancelled. However, gusty winds are still possible with this thunderstorm,” the NWS said.

The area remains under a tornado watch until 7 p.m. A flash flood warning remains in effect until 3:30 p.m. and a flood warning is in effect until April 6 at 7 a.m.

UPDATE 1:16 P.M.:

The NWS cancelled the tornado warning for Poinsett County. The warning remains in effect for Craighead, Greene and Mississippi Counties.

UPDATE 1:13 P.M.:

At 1:10 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Lake City, moving north at 70 mph. This storm
system is moving over areas already impacted earlier in the week

Craighead County, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — April 5, 2025 — The National Weather Service placed parts of Craighead County under a tornado warning.

According to the NWS, a tornado warning is in effect for south central Greene County, Craighead County, and northwestern Poinsett County.

Affected locations include Jolliff Store, Apt, Delfore, Vail, Valley View, Carmi, Gum Point, Whisp, Farrville, Buckeye, Lester, Craighead Forest Park, Arkmo, Caraway, Bethel, Finch, Herman Davis State Park, Herndon, Needham, and Milligan Ridge.

The warning lasts until 2 p.m.

At 12:54 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Weiner, or nine miles northwest of Harrisburg, moving northeast at 65 mph. This storm system is moving over areas already impacted earlier in the week, the NWS said.

This is radar-indicated rotation. Quarter-size hail is expected.
