Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – A new group of Arkansas State University faculty recently earned the prestigious Effective Teaching certification after completing training with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE).
ACUE is nationally recognized for its year-long professional development program, which provides educators with evidence-based teaching practices.
“Each ACUE graduate represents our faculty’s commitment to creating supportive and engaging learning environments for our students,” said Dr. Jill Simons, director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Faculty explore proven instructional strategies focused on active learning, inclusive teaching, effective assessment, and student motivation and implement these practices directly in their courses.
Dr. Cheryl Knight, assistant professor of social work and one of the participants, said, “The course content is highly relevant to my current teaching needs. In addition, each module offers multiple learning modalities that address different learning styles. Overall, I was very impressed with the content and delivery methods.”
The 33 faculty members bring the total number of A-State faculty members who have completed the ACUE Effective Teaching Certification to 136.
A-State history professor Dr. Kellie Wilson Buford, who received her certification, said the training will benefit both her and her students.
“The course was the most comprehensive, engaging and useful pedagogy-focused professional development I’ve encountered. Each week, I learned at least one new strategy to try in my face-to-face and online classes, engaged in important conversations with like-minded instructors who care deeply about how best to support student achievement in the university learning environment, and amassed dozens of resources that will aid me in future classes,” she said.
