Storms cause minor damage, power outages

Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A line of severe thunderstorms caused scattered damage, power outages and heavy downpours Saturday morning. The Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS) at the Jonesboro Municipal Airport measured a peak wind gust of 60 miles an hour as the storms moved through.

A power line was down across Main Street on the Northwest side of Bono. A police officer was blocking the road waiting for utility crews to respond to repair the downed line.

Trees were reported down near Mt. Carmel Road in South Jonesboro. Street light poles and traffic signs were down near Southwest Drive and Alexander near Interstate 555.

Trees and power lines were reported down near “Cornbread Corner” between Paragould and Oak Grove in Greene County. The Manila Fire Department reported trees down on several streets in Manila.

Craighead Electric reported about 750 customers without power as of 10:15am. Most of the outages were East of Lake City in Craighead County and in Greene County.

Entergy reported isolated outages near Bono and near Lake City.

City Water and Light reported just over a hundred customers without power mainly in two areas: the Fairview addition near Race Street, and just East of Southwest Drive near Interstate 555.

A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for the area until 2:00pm, although the main severe threat was pushing East of the Mississippi River moving out of Craighead County. Rain continued to fall at 10:15am. About a half inch of rain had been recorded by the AWOS at the Jonesboro Airport as of 10:15am.
