St. Bernards Physician to be Featured on Science and Discovery Channels, Explain AFib Treatment

Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A St. Bernards physician will be featured as an expert on the Emmy-nominated and Telly-winning show “Tomorrow’s World Today.”

The episode, which is set to air April 18 and 19, will focus on cardiac care’s evolution, from open-heart surgery to pulsed field ablation (PFA). This treats atrial fibrillation (AFib), which is an irregular heart rhythm, by targeting specific problem areas in the heart using rapid electrical pulses. It will explain the healthcare company Abbott’s Volt PFA System and its role in treating AFib.

Dr. Devi Nair, director of cardiac electrophysiology at St. Bernards Medical Center, uses mapping and ablation technologies in patient care. In the episode, Nair will explain how the Volt PFA System helps save lives and return patients to their routines.

“AFib is a growing problem, affecting over 33 million people worldwide,” Nair said in a press release announcing the episode. “With technologies like Volt, we are able to be more proactive, offering patients safer, quicker procedures that get them back to their normal lives within days.”

The episode will feature three other experts:

  • Dr. Jonathan P. Piccini Sr., professor of medicine at Duke University and director of the Duke Heart Center’s cardiac electrophysiology section
  • Dr. Christopher Piorkowski, chief medical officer and divisional vice president of medical affairs for Abbot’s electrophysiology business
  • Dr. Roderick Tung, division chief of cardiology and director of cardiovascular clinical research at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix

The episode will broadcast on the Science Channel on Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m. Central Time, and on the Discovery Channel on Sunday, April 19 at 6 a.m. Central Time. A 30-second preview can be found here.
