Police investigate overnight shooting

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A late-night shooting is under investigation in Jonesboro.

Jonesboro Police responded to the Super 8 Motel on Caraway Road just before 11 last night. When officers arrived, a man was found with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where his condition was unknown.

No other details were released. However, Craighead County Detention Center online records show an 18-year-old Memphis man was arrested around 3:30am and is being held on first degree murder charges pending a probable cause hearing later today. It is unknown whether the man is connected with the Tuesday night shooting.

UPDATE: Jan. 7, 9:30 a.m.

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting. One of those suspects was the aforementioned 18-year-old man from Memphis, Eugine Jackson. The other was a 16-year-old male. According to a JPD Facebook update:

“Around 10:44 pm Monday evening, dispatch received a ‘shots heard’ call and quickly dispatched officers with the Bravo Squad to the scene.

An officer in the vicinity encountered two individuals. When another officer arrived to aid in the investigation, he discovered 50-year-old Shane Delaney lying in the parking lot behind the hotel with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital and died from his injuries.

Eugine Jackson and a 16-year-old male were taken into custody and booked on Murder-1st Degree into the Craighead County Detention Center.

Great job to Bravo Squad and our Criminal Investigation Division for their swift action and hard work on this investigation.”
