Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Community members of all ages are invited to get up close and personal with various vehicles at the upcoming Touch a Truck event.
Hosted by Nettleton High School (NHS) EAST, the event will feature a variety of vehicles for participants to learn about and touch, including police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, monster trucks, helicopters, and more. Vehicles from all over Northeast Arkansas will be present.
“The vehicles themselves, the children are able to touch them. They get to learn about them, go inside them, depending on what it is, and really just enjoy it,” said NHS EAST student Avery Sample.

In addition, the event will feature several student-led events, different booths, and food. All proceeds from the event will benefit HopeCircle, a program part of the NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation that provides services, resources, education, and support to families living with life-changing illnesses.
“It’s really important to give back to the community. They do so much for us, and this is just an event that people can come out, support different businesses,” said NHS EAST student Aiyanna Patterson. “People get to have fun and just live life.”
Touch a Truck has been going on for 10 years now. When it began in 2015, organizers said it started out with about 50 vehicles. That figure has grown to almost 250 vehicles. Previous events have drawn around 7,000 people, organizers said.

EAST, which stands for Education Accelerated through Service and Technology, teaches students to use technology to assist and improve their communities. For this event, students make all promotional materials such as flyers, social media graphics, and videos, participate in interviews, and more.
Sandra Taylor, EAST facilitator at NHS, said many of her students grew up attending previous Touch a Truck events. She said seeing her students now organize and plan the event is rewarding.
“It’s been really cool to watch them. They are leaders, and developing the skills, communication skills, all sorts of types of skills that they develop. I love it,” Taylor said.
Donations are $5 per person, or $20 for a family of five or more. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NEA Baptist Clinic, located at 4802 E. Johnson Ave.
