UPDATE | Man Dies After Shooting, Person of Interest Detained

UPDATE MAY 7, 2:19 P.M.:

The name of the suspect in Wednesday night’s shooting has been released. Police arrested 19-year-old Rodarious Turrelle Johnson, of West Memphis, in connection with the shooting, JPD public information official Sally Smith confirmed to JRN.

Johnson’s booking information on the Craighead County Detention Center’s online jail roster.

The initial incident report lists a male and female suspect. Smith said no charges were filed against the female suspect.

The charge listed on the online jail roster is homicide – murder – 1st degree.

UPDATE MAY 7:

Jonesboro police have identified the victim in Wednesday night’s shooting near Fox Meadow Elementary School. According to the police report, 21-year-old Zadarius Merritt suffered from a gunshot wound to his left arm and side. He was transported to St. Bernards, where he later died.

Two suspects, a 19-year-old man and woman, are listed on the report, however, their names were not released. Police said a person of interest was detained in another county.

Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Jonesboro Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened Wednesday night in a neighborhood near Fox Meadow Elementary School.

According to a post from the department’s Facebook page, officers responded around 8:15 p.m. to the 4400 block of Southbrook Drive after reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he later died.

Police said a person of interest has since been detained in another county.

Investigators said the case remains active and that no additional information will be released at this time.

No names have been released.
