Jonesboro, AR – (Contributed) – Sept. 1, 2025 – The Lupine Wellness Center will host Dr. Ryan Farmer, HSP, as its first colloquium speaker of the school year.

He will present, “Psychology and Counseling Practitioners: Confronting the Ethical and Practical Realities of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)” at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning on the third floor of the Dean B. Ellis Library.

Farmer will give a presentation about generative artificial intelligence, in which he will discuss how practitioners can incorporate AI into their work.

AI has been available to practitioners since 2023 and is already transforming how mental health professionals approach traditional tasks. In Farmer’s presentation, he will examine how practitioners are incorporating AI into their work, the impact on efficiency and time management, and the ethical and legal considerations that accompany its use.

He will also discuss practical recommendations for integrating AI responsibly into everyday practice.

“AI is here to stay, and ignoring it is not an option,” said Farmer. “If we want to realize its benefits, we must confront its challenges directly.”

By the end of this session, participants will be able to describe current ways practitioners are using generative AI in their professional work, identify key ethical, legal, and practical considerations when integrating AI into practice, and know recommendations for using AI responsibly to enhance efficiency and maintain professional standards.
