Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro woman is facing a felony domestic battery charge after police said a fight over the weekend left a man with a stab wound to the neck.

On April 12, Jonesboro police responded to a domestic disturbance and found a man lying on the sidewalk with a stab wound to his neck. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, while 27-year-old Demesha Lashay Gibson was detained at the scene.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Gibson and the victim provided conflicting accounts of the incident.

During an interview with Detective Adam Hampton, Gibson said the argument began when she returned home from the hospital that morning. She stated the victim started the fight by hitting her in the face and pulling her hair.

Gibson admitted to striking him back as he fell to the ground, at which point she noticed he was bleeding from the neck. However, she denied stabbing him or having a knife, adding that only she, the victim, and her daughter were present.

At the hospital, the victim told officers a different story. He alleged Gibson started the fight and, although he never saw a weapon, acknowledged bleeding from his neck. He also stated that they were the only two people present at the time of the incident.

Despite neither party reporting a weapon, attending medical staff said the victim’s injury was a stab wound. As a result, Gibson was arrested and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center. The victim was cited for third-degree domestic battery and admitted to the hospital.

The following day, Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause to charge Gibson with second-degree domestic battery, a Class C felony. She is currently being held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Gibson’s arraignment is scheduled for May 18. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
