Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – The U.S. Department of Justice Tuesday morning began investigating the Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Department director, Danny Kapales.

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver said in a news release that the city is fully cooperating with the investigation and will continue to do so for the duration.

“Mr. Kapales was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation,” the release said.

Assistant Jim Stearns will be the acting Parks Director until further notice. Due to the ongoing investigation, the city will be making no further comments on the matter.

The city’s news release said any questions were to be directed to the public information officer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Little Rock field office.

JRN recieved the following statement from the FBI Little Rock public information officer Jessica Franklin:

“The FBI is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Currently, there is no threat to public safety. Since this is an ongoing federal investigation, we are not able to provide any additional details.”

During the mayor’s reports of Tuesday’s city council meeting, Copenhaver echoed his earlier statement. He added that despite the investigation, no disruptions to park programming and youth athletic events were expected.
