Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – Court documents show that a Jonesboro man who broke into a local dealership, stole a truck, and drove around the city spending stolen cash pled guilty Monday.

On July 13, Logan Matthew Sawyer pleaded guilty to one count of commercial burglary and two counts of theft of property valued at more than $5,000 but less than $25,000.

Second Judicial Circuit Judge Scott Ellington ordered Sawyer to serve 36 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, with 175 days already served. He was also given a 60-month suspended sentence.

As part of the court order, Sawyer must obtain a GED and pay all court costs and fines.

The sentencing stems from an investigation into an incident that occurred when police said Sawyer busted out a window at Williamson Auto Sales on East Nettleton Avenue and entered the business, stealing money and other items, including a couple of sets of keys to vehicles that were for sale on the lot.

The probable cause affidavit states that Sawyer then stole a 2014 GMC truck from the lot and went to several places around the city. He used the cash on several purchases and gave some of it to his friends. Police eventually found the vehicle, and Sawyer was arrested. Over $5,000 worth of items were taken along with the vehicle.

The sentencing order states that a potential charge for Sawyer of first-degree criminal mischief with damages less than or equal to $1,000 was dropped.
