Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $100,000 bond after police said he assaulted a victim during a meetup and later burglarized the victim’s apartment while they were reporting the crime.

Jaheim Kyjaun Hooks, 24, faces three felony charges: Residential burglary, terroristic threatening – first-degree, and criminal attempt. He is also facing three misdemeanors, including battery – third-degree, theft of $1,000 or less, and criminal mischief – first-degree.

The charges stem from an incident on Feb. 16 near Eldridge Street and State Street. According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim reported to police that they had met with Hooks for sex.

The victim told police Hooks demanded money and claimed to have a gun when the victim did not give the cash. Hooks then attacked the victim, placing him in a chokehold and punching him in the face, causing an injury to his left ear.

The affidavit stated that Hooks reached for the center console, where the victim believed a gun was stored. The victim was able to fight back and escape the vehicle. As he ran away, Hooks reportedly yelled that he was going to kill him.

While the victim was speaking with the police, Hooks went to the victim’s apartment. Police said Hooks broke the victim’s TV and stole his gaming console.

Hooks was arrested at 2:16 p.m., according to the Craighead County Detention Center roster. He appeared before Judge Barbara Halsey the next day. Halsey found probable cause to charge him.

In addition to setting a $100,000 cash/surety bond, she ordered Hooks to have no contact with the victim and to wear an ankle monitor should he be released.

Hooks is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.
