Little Rock, AR – Contributed – Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has appointed Heather Maxey of Mountain Home to a seven-year term on the Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees.

Maxey succeeds immediate past board chair Steve Eddington of Benton, who served five years. Her term will expire Jan. 14, 2033.

ASU System Interim President Robin Myers, a former chancellor at ASU-Mountain Home, praised the appointment from a community represented by the system.

“I have known Heather to be an outstanding and active member of the Mountain Home community, and she will be an excellent addition to our Board of Trustees,” Myers said. “Her experiences in a variety of family-owned businesses will be welcome on the board and in the ASU System. Her previous service on the Higher Education Coordinating Board gives her a nice head start in understanding public higher education issues, as well.”

Maxey and her family own and operate several automobile dealerships, including Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. She is co-owner of Big Creek Country Club in Mountain Home and co-owner of multiple property groups managing commercial, residential and medical real estate.

She served on the Arkansas Department of Higher Education Coordinating Board from 2023-2026. She served as the Baxter County campaign coordinator for Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Lt. Gov. Leslie Rutledge and U.S. Sen. John Boozman.

She previously was a member of the boards of the Peitz Cancer House in Baxter County and the A+ for Education Campaign for Mountain Home Public Schools and was PTA district director of outreach for Harrison Public Schools. She is a board member of the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce.

“I am excited for the opportunity to work with the Arkansas State University System,” Maxey said. “I think there is tremendous growth opportunity at each campus. I have not yet had the opportunity to see each campus, but I look forward to doing that very soon.”

Maxey attended the University of Arkansas, where she majored in marketing.

She and her husband, Clay, have two children, Finley and Mattie Claire, who attend Mountain Home public schools.
