Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Gearhead Outfitters presented Jonesboro D.A.R.E. with a $10,000 check Wednesday morning.

Since 2013, Gearhead Outfitters has hosted the Gearhead Endurance Challenge, a yearly challenge in which participants partake in different endurance challenges. Proceeds from the event go to different community organizations. This is the second year that Jonesboro D.A.R.E. has been selected to receive the event’s proceeds.

“This is the largest check that we’ve been able to present from this event,” Amanda Herget, co-owner of Gearhead Outfitters, told JRN. “This is really what it’s all about, is just giving back to the community, investing in young people, and just supporting this town.”

Jonesboro D.A.R.E visits all schools within the Jonesboro city limits over a 10-week period, seeing a total of around 1,400 students. It educates area fifth graders on the dangers of alcohol and tobacco, bullying, and how to report it, as well as provides mental health education. All of its funding comes from fundraisers, which it hosts three times a year, and in-kind donations.

Lynae Prater, D.A.R.E. officer, told JRN that the funds from Wednesday’s check would be used to implement new summer programs that teach kids about police work and encourage community relationships.

“It helps keep the program running. Without donations, without sponsorships, without all of that, we would not have a program,” Prater said. “Receiving a check of this amount, it takes a burden off of focusing so hard on fundraisers, making sure that it makes the absolute most, which we’re gonna still do, but we can also divert some of that attention back toward, ‘What can we do for our community?'”

Jonesboro D.A.R.E.’s next fundraiser, the D.A.R.E 2 Show Your Ride, is set for June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Joe Mack Campbell Park. More information can be found here. The next Gearhead Endurance Challenge is set for April 24, 2027.
