Arkansas State (1-2-1) soccer earned the win in the final minute of the match with a penalty kick scored off the foot of Lu Flores against Stephen F. Austin (1-2-1) for the 2-1 win Thursday evening at the A-State Soccer Complex.

The Red Wolf attack gave fits for the SFA back line, Arkansas State firing off 10 total shots in the first half, putting three on target.

Subbed onto the field in the 23rd minute, Elleigh Newcomb set up for the corner kick, able to get to the ball after a clearing attempt ricocheted off of Kennedy Horn. Newcomb took advantage with a clear shot in the goal box just seconds after taking the field for her first collegiate goal.

The Lumberjacks equalized six minutes into the second half with a header, with both sides marching with aggression the remainder of the game for the decisionmaker. Leigha Dobbins was booked for a yellow card in the final minutes during a defensive stand, but the tide flipped just two minutes later on the opposite side of the field.

A wave of attack for the Red Wolves put Zoie Kempf in position in the penalty box before drawing a foul. Lu Flores represented A-State for the compensatory penalty kick, firing the shot true into the bottom left corner for the 90th-minute goal and the Red Wolves’ first win of the season.

A-State is set to host Alabama State on Sunday, Aug. 30 with first kick timed to 1 p.m. Senior Day ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m.
