Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – The Forrest L. Wood Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center hosted its fifth consecutive Big Squirrel Challenge on Saturday, January 10.

The challenge was part of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s statewide event, bringing together hunters from across the region to celebrate Arkansas’ outdoor traditions.

A total of 40 participants competed locally in the noon-to-noon challenge, where adult and youth teams hunted during legal shooting hours to harvest their heaviest three-squirrel bag. Hunters were allowed to still hunt or use squirrel dogs, with weigh-ins held Saturday afternoon at Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center.

Prizes were awarded for first and second place in six categories: fox squirrel only, gray squirrel only, and mixed bag, with divisions for both adult and youth teams. Scores were determined by the total weight of the three-squirrel bag, measured in grams.

The event was a fun, family-friendly competition that brought friends and families together to enjoy the outdoors, while also connecting Jonesboro participants to a statewide conservation and hunting event coordinated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
