EF-Unknown Rating Issued to Tornado that Touched Down Near Craighead/Poinsett County Line

Poinsett County, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A twister touched down near the Craighead/Poinsett County line during the tornado-warned storm last week, the National Weather Service (NWS) said Monday.

On Tuesday, April 28, from 12:48 a.m. to 12:49 a.m., a tornado touched down for about 0.52 miles near the Craighead and Poinsett County line in a large field, according to the NWS.

It was part of a tornado-warned storm issued for southeastern Craighead and northeastern Poinsett counties. The storm’s maximum width was 50 yards, per the NWS. No injuries or deaths were reported.

The NWS issued an EF-Unknown rating.

“The tornado occurred over an open field and no damage was reported. Since no damage indicators were found, this tornado is rated an EF-Unknown,” the NWS said.

The Enhanced Fujita Scale, or EF Scale, classifies tornadoes into the following categories:

  • EF-0: Peak winds 65 to 85 mph
  • EF-1: Peak winds 86 to 110 mph
  • EF-2: Peak winds 111 to 135 mph
  • EF-3: Peak winds 136 to 165 mph
  • EF-4: Peak winds 166 to 200 mph
  • EF-5: Peak winds exceeding 200 mph
