Statesboro, GA – Contributed – Addison Collum became the sixth Sun Belt player to record 25-plus kills in a match this season and guided Arkansas State (10-8, 6-1 SBC) to a 3-2 (16-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 15-11) victory over Georgia Southern (13-6, 5-2 SBC) on Friday night inside Hanner Fieldhouse.

Collum finished with a career-best 27 kills on a .440 attack percentage while adding a service ace, six digs and two total blocks. The performance marked the most kills by a Red Wolf in a match since Macey Putt landed 27 against UT Martin on Aug. 27, 2021. Haley Glunz led the team with a .500 attack percentage on nine kills and secured a team-leading six total blocks, including two solo stops.

Erin Madigan picked up a team-high 20 digs to surpass 1,000 in her career and recorded 45 assists in the contest. As a team, A-State tallied 70 kills on a .249 clip and totaled 83 digs alongside eight total blocks en route to the fourth victory over a top-100 RPI opponent this season.

Set 1

A service error paired with a kill from Devyn Lewis narrowed the deficit to 12-10, but the Eagles surged beyond that point. The opposition won nine of the next 11 rallies and the score eventually reached 23-13. Two kills by Collum plus an attack error highlighted the Red Wolves’ rally effort before Georgia Southern landed one of their own to end the set at 25-16.

Set 2

An 11-3 run highlighted by seven kills and an ace flipped momentum into the Scarlet & Black’s favor. The lead dwindled to four points before a 3-0 run powered by two kills from Lewis and another for Collum created a 16-9 advantage. The lead maxed out at nine when Madigan and Adison Ozuna teamed up for a block, and the final rally effort from the Eagles would not be enough as A-State tied the match in a 25-18 decision.

Set 3

Another fast start put the Red Wolves ahead 7-3 before the opposition mounted a 6-0 run during a stretch that saw the Eagles score seven of the next nine points. A service error paired with a kill by Ozuna ended the stretch, but Georgia Southern eventually broke away and took a 15-11 advantage into the technical timeout. Collum powered the Scarlet & Black with four kills during an 8-1 run that created a three-point lead.

The Eagles won the next four rallies, and after A-State tied the set at 21-21, the opposition claimed four of the final five to win the set.

Set 4

Four consecutive kills plus a block reversed a four-point gap and gave the Red Wolves a 16-14 lead in a must-win fourth set. Neither side gained the upper hand over the next 14 rallies, as a kill from the opposition tied the set at 22-22. Collum broke the tie with back-to-back kills and followed an attack error with one more to force a fifth set.

Set 5

Georgia Southern looked to break away after moving ahead 9-7, but service and attack errors plus Collum’s 26th kill of the match stonewalled all momentum. Calea Bush matched a kill from the Eagles and Collum added another to put the Red Wolves ahead 12-10. A-State surrendered one more point, as a service error paired with a kill by Lewis allowed Glunz to end the match with one of her own.

The Scarlet & Black face Georgia Southern at 12 p.m. on Oct. 17 inside Hanner Fieldhouse. The match will stream on ESPN+, and live stats will be available at AStateRedWolves.com/stats.

A-State returns to Jonesboro for a series against Troy on Oct. 30 and 31 inside First National Bank Arena. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
