Brookland, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Due to significant growth at the Brookland School District, the district’s school board passed a resolution Monday night calling for an election to raise its millage rate.

The proposed increase would be 3.95 mills. A millage increase has not been approved since 2013, according to a news release from the district.

According to the release, the millage would fund various projects, including a tornado shelter and training center.

A new cafeteria at the district’s junior high would be constructed, which would also function as a tornado safe room. It would shelter the populations of the junior and senior high buildings and would be opened to the community after hours during severe weather events.

The other proposed project, called the Bearcat Training Center, would be located at the south end of the district’s stadium. It would house locker rooms, staff offices, as well as weight and health training rooms. Groups such as cheer/dance, athletics, ROTC and band would all be able to use it.

According to the board’s resolution, the millage would be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The release said the district will provide further factual information regarding project specifics and financial details leading up to the election.
