Body of Missing Juvenile Recovered After 3-Day Search in Craighead County

Craighead County, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A three-day search for a missing juvenile ended Sunday morning after Craighead County sheriff’s deputies recovered the boy’s body near Iron Bridge Access on Highway 69 between Lake City and Trumann.

According to Craighead County Chief Deputy Jason Allen, search crews resumed operations at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday. At about 9:23 a.m., deputies located the juvenile’s body a short distance from where he was last seen. Allen said the victim’s parents have been notified but did not identify the victim.

A Paragould church posted a request for prayers indicating the victim was the 12-year-old son of one of the church’s members.

“This is a tragedy and is a reminder of how dangerous the river system can be, and I urge the public to refrain from swimming in these areas,” Allen said.

The recovery concluded an extensive search that began Friday evening after authorities received a report around 6:25 p.m. that a juvenile male had gone underwater at the Iron Bridge Access.

Search efforts continued throughout Saturday, with crews using divers, sonar equipment and LiveScope technology in an attempt to locate the victim. Operations were suspended at nightfall before resuming early Sunday.

Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, Trumann Fire Department, Lake City Fire Department, Bay Fire Department and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
