Set 1

After dropping four of the first six rallies, the Red Wolves established control with a 12-2 run highlighted by service aces from Collum and Kaitlin Whitlock. The lead was maintained at eight before Collum’s third kill of the set, paired with back-to-back aces from Libby Gee-Weiler, negated two points from the opposition and made the score 21-12. A-State would not allow the Golden Eagles to start a comeback bid as Collum posted two more kills in the last four rallies to secure the set.

Set 2

The Scarlet & Black jumped out to a four-point lead before Southern Miss closed the gap to one entering the 14th rally. Following a service error by the opposition, Collum and Haley Glunz teamed up for a block while the latter joined Madigan for back-to-back kills and extended the lead to 12-7. With the score at 14-11, Lewis posted two consecutive kills and added a block during a 10-0 run that pushed A-State ahead 24-11.

Both sides exchanged errors in the final two rallies as the Red Wolves moved ahead 2-0 in the match for the second consecutive night.

Set 3

The score was tied at 8-8 when Lewis connected on three consecutive kills and Collum added another. Bush capped the 5-0 stretch with a block and the Scarlet & Black took control beyond that point. The lead swelled to seven when Lewis landed her ninth kill, and it would be the first of three consecutive points that made the score 23-14. Southern Miss fired back with two kills and a block in the next four rallies, but it would not be enough as Lewis’ 12th kill secured a 25-17 decision and the match.

A-State returns to Jonesboro for a series against Troy on Oct. 30 and 31 inside First National Bank Arena. Friday’s match is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the Saturday contest is slated for 1 p.m. Both matches will stream on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at AStateRedWolves.com/stats.
