Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – August 10, 2024 -vNew York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University held its annual White Coat Ceremony Friday to honor the NYITCOM at A-State Class of 2028.
The event took place at the Fowler Center on the A-State campus recognizing NYITCOM at A-State’s newest class of student doctors who recently arrived in Jonesboro to begin their medical education.
“The white coat ceremony itself is intended to establish a point in time in which the student crosses over into a new role as a student doctor,” said Shane Speights, D.O., dean of NYITCOM at A-State. “It is a very special time when we commemorate the beginning of the students’ medical school journey and celebrate our incoming class alongside their family and friends.”
After receiving their medical white coats, the Class of 2028 took an oath of commitment to honor the privilege and responsibility of their new role as student doctor. Speights as well as Nicole Wadsworth, D.O., Dean of NYITCOM, spoke at the ceremony.
The Class of 2028 is the ninth class on NYITCOM’s Arkansas campus, which was established in 2016 to train physicians to help alleviate the significant physician shortage facing Arkansas and the Greater Mississippi Delta region.
