Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond after police said he raped an intoxicated person.

According to an affidavit, on Oct. 13, a victim reported to the Jonesboro Police Department that they were sexually assaulted the previous day by 21-year-old Byron Keith Washington.

The victim said they had begun dating Washington, and he called them to come to his home. They told him they had been drinking and could not drive, and he offered to pick them up, which they agreed to.

Upon arriving, they went to Washington’s bedroom, where they listened to music and smoked marijuana. The victim said they soon began to feel tired and were falling asleep.

The affidavit said that while drifting off, the victim felt the zipper on their sweater begin to unzip but struggled to stay awake. Washington then pulled the victim’s pants down and performed a sexual act on them. The victim said they were unable to speak but attempted to make a sound that alluded to their lack of consent.

The victim told police they pushed Washington off and rolled onto their side, turning their back to him. The affidavit said that while in this position, Washington cuddled up to the victim and began having sex again. The affidavit said that despite being told “no” and the victim pushing him off again, Washington continued, grabbing the victim by the throat and began yelling, “Wake up, mama.”

Once Washington was finished, the victim fell asleep due to being intoxicated. The affidavit said that once they woke up, they found their clothes on the floor and Washington sleeping beside them in the bed. They woke him and told him they wanted to go home.

The next day, Washington texted the victim, asking if they were OK. The affidavit said that during this conversation, Washington admitted he should have stopped and apologized for taking advantage of them.

Washington was arrested Oct. 15 by Jonesboro police and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

On Oct. 17, Washington appeared before District Judge Tommy Fowler, who found probable cause to charge him with rape (forcible compulsion). In addition to the $250,000 bond, Fowler ordered Washington to have no contact with the victim.

Washington is scheduled to be back in court Nov. 25.
