Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A Jonesboro woman is being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond after police said she broke into her ex-girlfriend’s home through a window, struck the victim with a barstool, and chased her with a pair of scissors.
District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge 25-year-old Caitlin Rae’shawen Smith with the following:
- Class Y Felony: Aggravated residential burglary
- Class A Misdemeanor: Third-degree domestic battery
- Class A Misdemeanor: Theft of $1,000 or less (all others)
- Class A Misdemeanor: First-degree criminal mischief (property of another with a value of $1,000 or less)
- Class C Misdemeanor: Obstructing governmental operations (obstructs, impairs, hinders)
- Class B Misdemeanor: Resisting arrest (refusal to submit to arrest/active or passive refusal)
- Class D Felony: Aggravated assault on a family or household member
According to the affidavit, on Jan. 13, Smith arrived at the home of her ex-girlfriend and requested diapers. The victim refused to let her in. In response, Smith removed the screen from the living room window and climbed inside.
Once inside, Smith hit the victim in the head with a barstool, resulting in a cut and bruise to the victim’s left eye. Police said Smith intentionally destroyed some of the victim’s items, including a video game console, and stole various pieces of gaming equipment. The victim fled the apartment, but Smith followed her with a pair of scissors. Eventually, Smith drove off with the stolen items.
The affidavit said Jonesboro police officers were dispatched to the scene following the incident. While heading there, dispatch provided a suspect name and vehicle description. Upon arrival, an officer saw Smith attempting to leave in a vehicle and stopped it.
Upon contact, Smith refused to get out of the vehicle despite repeated commands to do so. This resulted in officers using physical force to get her out while she actively resisted arrest. Officers were also able to find the stolen items reported by the victim.
In addition to the $150,000 bond, Fowler ordered Smith to have no contact with the victim. She must wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.
Smith’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27.
