Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 17, 2024 – A Jonesboro man was given a $250,000 cash-only bond after being charged with vehicle theft and possession of drugs and guns.
Jonesboro police responded to a home on French Street after a woman reported her vehicle stolen. A few hours later, officers found the vehicle at an address on Roseclair.
When the woman got the vehicle back, she reported that a pistol, an iPhone and an extra key were missing.
After dark on that same day, the woman’s husband heard the vehicle start and he saw it pull out of their driveway. Officers were called to their home again. A few hours later, the car was found again, this time on North Patrick, after which it was returned.
The next morning, the woman removed the battery from the vehicle and set up a camera in the carport. That night, a man later identified as 20-year-old Joshua Caines was seen on video using the key from the key fob to get into the vehicle. He looked under the hood, saw that the battery was gone and left.
Caines proceeded to steal a different vehicle and was later apprehended in Indiana with that vehicle. After his arrest, he was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.
While out on bond, an anonymous tip led to another police encounter with Caines. There were reports that he was selling drugs out of an apartment in Garden Manor on North Church Street.
Agents conducted surveillance on the building and eventually saw Caines exit, carrying a backpack. As officers approached him, Caines tossed a gun onto the ground.
Once he was in handcuffs, agents searched the backpack and found 296 grams of marijuana and two more firearms. There was a set of digital scales and two boxes of sandwich baggies which was believed to be used for the packaging and sale of the marijuana.
Caines received multiple charges, including simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of drug paraphernalia, vehicle theft and more. His bond was set at $250,000 cash-only. His court date is set for Dec. 17 at 8:30 a.m.
