Jonesboro, AR (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 30, 2024 – Cheers were heard all across Jonesboro Public Schools as educators were presented with this year’s Classroom Impact Grants.

Twenty-three grants were given out totaling $30,307.01. The grants are provided by the Foundation for Jonesboro Public Schools, an organization that provides money to teachers to fund educational experiences and opportunities for students.

“Teachers apply for the grants for educational/academic purposes. The grants go towards enhancing academics, and/or for a culminating event at the end of a learning unit/experience. Grants are to be used for academic purposes benefiting students,” said Shelley Spikes, a Foundation board member.

Each school year, grants are given out to “educators” across the school system. According to the Foundation for Jonesboro Public Schools website, an educator is defined as “any teacher, counselor, librarian, or other person who is leading for a specific period of time students, either one-on-one or more than one at a time, for the purposes of learning.”

Funding for the grants comes from fundraisers the Foundation hosts, including brick sales, Homecoming tailgate tickets, as well as sponsorships.

There were 43 grant applicants. The Foundation for Jonesboro Public Schools has a grant committee that decides which awards grants based on academic/educational value.
